SHARP I

The SHARP I (Study Home Adolescent Residential Program) is a staff secure treatment program for adolescent males, located in a suburban setting in Springfield, Massachusetts.  The program is a structured living program that focuses on the strengths of each resident as we work together with youth, families, social service agencies, and other professionals in the treatment delivery process.  The treatment plan may include group, individual and family therapy, as well as work around issues of anger management, fire-setting, substance abuse and sexually inappropriate behaviors.  We are also able to provide psychopharmacological interventions under the supervision of a consulting psychiatrist and supported by our clinical and nursing staff.

The program accepts referrals from the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Youth Services and other state agencies.  Our clients have emotional or behavioral challenges that require residential treatment.  Youth entering SHARP I may be involved with the juvenile courts as offenders.  Many youth entering the program have histories of abuse and neglect.

The residence itself is a therapeutic milieu that emphasizes life-skills development, self esteem building, anger management, problem solving and the appropriate identification and expression of feelings.  By using a multi-systemic approach we have achieved a high degree of success in helping young people achieve their goal of reunifying with their families or moving to a less restrictive environment and in some cases moving to independent living.
