8.26.09 Colorful Urban Plunge in Mason Square
The Children's Study Home will undergo some colorful transformation on Friday, August 28, 2009 at its
Mason Square,
44 Sherman Street
Springfield campus. The Study Home will welcome fifteen first year
Western
New England
College students from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. through a program known as Urban Plunge. Urban Plunge affords first years students, led by upper-class students, the opportunity to participate in service projects that will impact residents of the greater
Springfield area. The `Plunge' allows them a purposeful experience in the new community they are studying within.
Under the direction of prominent artist and sculptor Don Blanton of
Springfield, the WNEC students will paint a 40 foot by 15 foot full color mural with a family centered theme to be hung outside of a new family center of The Children's Study Home. The mural, sketched by Mr. Blanton, illustrates activities of families being close and spending time together.
