8.29.08 Study Home and WNEC Students Participate in Colorful Urban Plunge
Springfield , MA The Children's Study Home will undergo some colorful transformation on Friday, August 29, 2008 at its 44 Sherman Street Springfield campus. The Study Home will welcome fifteen first year Western New England College students from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. through a program known as Urban Plunge. Urban Plunge affords first years students, led by upper-class students, the opportunity to participate in service projects that will impact residents of the greater Springfield area. The `Plunge' allows them a purposeful experience in the new community they are studying within.
Under the direction of prominent artist and sculptor Don Blanton of Springfield , the WNEC students will paint a 50 foot by 10 foot full color mural in the game room of The Cottage, a residential facility for boys ages 6 - 13, managed by the Children's Study Home. The mural, sketched by Mr. Blanton, illustrates a wavy ocean scene comprised of water, sand, a lighthouse, palms trees and seagulls.
