Mill Pond High School Graduates 10 Students on June 13, 2007

June 12, 2007 - The Children's Study Home is proud to announce the graduation of the Mill Pond High School Class of 2007. The graduation will take place on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Western New England College's River Memorial Building at 6:30 p.m.,
1215 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, Massachusetts

The extraordinary class is comprised of ten students who have overcome insurmountable challenges and have bright futures ahead of them.  The students all reside in the Springfield area, attending Mill Pond School with sponsorship from their hometown public schools.  Mill Pond High School provides a specialized learning environment combining small classes, individualized education plans, and vocational training opportunities for students who have behavioral and learning challenges.

Two students exemplify the unbeatable spirit and winning attitude of the Class.  Montrell is a volunteer at the Dunbar Community Center, is the co-captain of the undefeated basketball team, and while attending Mill Pond School this year he was enrolled in college-level coursework at Springfield Technical Community College. He plans to continue his education at a local college.  Another student, Luis, has been attending Springfield Technical Community College, preparing for his future coursework at Springfield College.

"All the students have been successful achieving their individual goals," said Mary Ellen Clay, Principal of the Mill Pond High School. "The teachers and staff members are proud of each student and their accomplishments." Clay said that a majority of the students passed the MCAS and all the students have plans for future educational or vocational training.

Mill Pond High School is one of the programs operated by The Children's Study Home, a non-profit social service agency providing special education, residential treatment, and family support programs for children and families in need.  The agency was first founded in 1865 as one of the first organizations in Massachusetts to provide a temporary home for women and children in need of employment training and family support services.
